The official launch of The Debt Counsellors Charitable Trust took place at the House of Lords on Tuesday 14th October. The event, hosted by Baroness Hayter of Kentish Town, was attended by some 50 people representing all corners of the financial services sector.
At the launch we announced some good news. Firstly, Sam Nurse, Chair of the Institute of Money Advisers has agreed to join the Board of Trustees and will be joining the board in mid-November. Secondly, commercial debt solutions firm Harrington Brooks have agreed to donate an initial sum of £50,000 to The Debt Counsellors to allow us to provide free debt advice to those clients they cannot assist. Finally, last week saw the launch of our pilot referral pilot project with QuikQuid. They will be signposting customers to us who are in serious financial difficulty.
On the same day as our official launch we were advised by The Charity Commission that we have been granted registered charity status – our number is 1158869.
We are currently awaiting several new specialist debt advisers to join us over the next few weeks as the number of calls from clients continues to grow.
